Under the bill on amendments to clause 9 of the Law "On Citizenship of Ukraine" (re national security) (Reg. No.8468), submitted by the President of Ukraine, an individual can be denied the citizenship of Ukraine if they were convicted to imprisonment in Ukraine for felony or especially grave crimes (until the date the record of their conviction is expunged), considering the rate of threat for the national security of the state.

 

The bill on amendments to clause 9 of the Law "On Citizenship of Ukraine" (re grounds for denying the citizenship of Ukraine) (Reg. No.8468-1), submitted by Dmytro Vetvytskyi, contains a norm, whereby an individual cannot be granted the citizenship of Ukraine in case they:

 

prepared for committing or attempted to commit or committed actions qualified as crimes against peace, safety of humanity, international legal order by the international agreements of Ukraine and Laws of Ukraine;

 

prepared for committing or attempted to commit or committed actions qualified as crimes against national security of Ukraine or crimes against public security by the Laws of Ukraine;

 

were involved in criminal proceedings in Ukraine or in other states for the actions qualified as felony or especially grave crimes by the Laws of Ukraine;

 

committed public desecration of state symbols of Ukraine;

 

In the result of the discussion the Committee recommended the Verkhovna Rada to scrutinize both bills in the first reading during the plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
